Tata Motors to Open Exclusive EV-Only Showrooms in India

Tata Motors, the Indian automaker, has announced plans to open exclusive electric vehicle (EV)-only showrooms in India later this year. The company aims to expand its EV ecosystem and will be exploring the possibility of exclusive EV dealerships under the Tata.ev brand.

The process will be implemented in a phased manner, with a few dealerships opening first to test the waters. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, stated that the first phase will focus on experimenting, learning, and perfecting the EV dealership model.

Chandra hinted that around five EV-exclusive dealerships may be opened in the first phase, with future plans depending on the learnings from these experimental outlets. Currently, Tata Motors sells three electric vehicles – Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and Nexon EV – alongside their internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

The decision to open exclusive EV-only showrooms is driven by the belief that EV customers have different needs compared to ICE vehicle buyers. Tata Motors aims to provide a tailored experience for EV customers by offering a dedicated space and services.

When asked about the investments required for this exclusive EV network, Chandra explained that there would be a greater investment in each outlet to ensure a more sophisticated and enhanced customer experience. This would include charger installations for EVs.

The launch of the new 2023 Nexon EV facelift in India highlights Tata Motors’ dedication to advancing its EV offerings. The updated model features design and styling updates, as well as premium creature comforts and smarter technology. The mid-range variant offers an increased range of 465 km, as certified by ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India).
