The board of NHPC, the state-owned hydro power company, has approved the appointment of Raj Kumar Chaudhary as its Director (Technical). The Ministry of Power made the appointment on September 18, 2023, and Chaudhary’s term will be effective from the date he assumes charge until June 30, 2025, or until further orders.
Chaudhary is a graduate in Civil Engineering from BIT (Sindri) and holds an Advance Diploma in Management. He joined NHPC in 1989 as a Probationary Executive (Civil) at the Koel Karo plant in Jharkhand. Over the years, he has held various positions in the Cost engineering department, Design and engineering department, and has worked on several construction projects of NHPC, including projects in India and Bhutan.
Chaudhary’s experience spans all aspects of hydro-power project development, from concept to commissioning. He has played a key role in the development of hydropower in India and Bhutan. One of his notable achievements was the successful completion of the Kalpong project ahead of schedule, despite its remote location in the Andaman & Nicobar islands.
With Chaudhary’s appointment, NHPC aims to leverage his expertise and experience to further its mission of developing and operating hydro-power projects in a sustainable and efficient manner. The company is committed to contributing to the growth of the renewable energy sector in India and meeting the country’s increasing energy needs.
