Higher Oil Prices Drive Up Gas Prices in New York

Gas prices in New York have increased due to the surge in oil prices. The current national average for a gallon of gasoline is $3.88, up five cents from last week. In New York State, the average price is $3.92, three cents higher than a week ago. The price of oil has risen to the $90s per barrel, leading to higher pump prices.

The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that gas demand has decreased while domestic gasoline stocks have risen. Despite the decrease in demand, the elevated oil prices have kept pump prices high. This has also affected diesel prices, with the national average for diesel at $4.58, up 10 cents from last week. However, it is lower than the price of $4.96 a year ago.

To conserve fuel, motorists are advised to plan their routes, avoid peak traffic times, and combine errands into one trip. Using cruise control and maintaining recommended tire pressure can also improve fuel efficiency. Removing unnecessary items from the vehicle can also help reduce fuel consumption.

AAA members can save on gas by joining the Fuel Rewards at Shell program and receive discounts at gas stations such as Fastrac, Maple Leaf Market, and Shell. Motorists are encouraged to compare pump prices before filling up using the AAA Mobile App for iPhone, iPad, and Android. More fuel-saving tips can be found on the AAA website.
