North Haven Residents Can Schedule Appointments for Energy Assistance Program

North Haven residents can now schedule appointments for the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program through the Town of North Haven’s Community Services office. The energy assistance season for 2023-2024 will officially begin on October 3.

To schedule an appointment, residents can call Community Services at 203-239-2566 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Appointments will be conducted over the phone on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon.

In order to apply for energy assistance, residents will need to gather their energy and/or water documents. This includes a copy of the most recent heating bill, electric bill, and water bill, or a copy or photo of the rental lease showing that utilities are included in the rent.

Residents may also need to gather income documents. If anyone in the household currently receives benefits like SNAP or cash assistance, there is no need to provide income documents. Otherwise, proof of income will be required.

For employed individuals, copies or photos of paystubs showing income from 4 consecutive weeks within the last 3 months, or a signed letter from the payroll department/employer stating income during this time period will be necessary. For self-employed individuals, a completed Self-Employment Worksheet and the most recently filed IRS Form 1040, including all schedules, will be required.

Additional income sources such as Social Security, unemployment or veterans’ benefits, contributions from friends/relatives, pensions or annuities, rental income or alimony, child support or adoption benefits will also need to be documented with award letters and/or signed statements.

Pension recipients will need to provide their most recent pension statement or bank statement with the IRS 1099 Form. A signed statement from the income source on their letterhead will also be accepted.

It is important to note that energy assistance determinations may take up to 45 business days.

For more information on eligibility or to schedule an appointment, residents can contact Community Services at the provided phone number during the specified hours.
