Ammonia Fuel Producer Amogy Expands Operations to Houston

Ammonia fuel producer Amogy is expanding its operations to Houston with the opening of a new $40 million, four-acre site early next year. The decision to establish a presence in Houston was driven by the city’s status as the energy capital of the world and its proximity to key customers, suppliers, and talent. According to Seonghoon Woo, CEO and co-founder of Amogy, this move will enable the company to ramp up its manufacturing operations and deliver its ammonia-based, emission-free, high energy-density power solutions to customers globally.

Amogy, founded in 2020 by four MIT PhD alumni, has a mission to enable the decarbonization of hard-to-abate sectors such as shipping, power generation, and heavy-duty transportation. Their innovative technology utilizes ammonia as a fuel source, providing a green alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Ammonia-based power solutions offer a high energy density and emit no harmful emissions, making them a sustainable and efficient choice for various applications.

The company has already demonstrated the success of its ammonia-to-power technology in a drone, tractor, and semi-truck. Additionally, the Amogy team is currently retrofitting a tugboat, which will become the world’s first ammonia-powered vessel. This project marks a significant milestone in the transition towards cleaner and more sustainable maritime transportation.

Amogy’s expansion to Houston reinforces the growing demand for alternative fuel solutions in the energy sector. With its commitment to decarbonization and investment in cutting-edge technology, Amogy is well-positioned to play a crucial role in the global transition to a sustainable energy future.
