Aboitiz Power Corp., in partnership with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), will be conducting a feasibility study on a multipurpose project in Ifugao province. The project aims to enhance power supply in Luzon while also improving food security through irrigation.
The memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between Aboitiz Power’s joint venture with Scatec, the SN Aboitiz Power Group (SNAP), and NIA for the Alimit multipurpose project. The project focuses on studying the water management potential of the Alimit river, particularly its use for irrigation.
The Alimit river is a tributary of the Magat dam, which is owned and operated by NIA. This dam is a significant source of irrigation and power supply in Luzon. By studying the feasibility of the Alimit multipurpose dam, the project aims to not only improve irrigation and boost power generation but also provide additional benefits for agriculture, aquaculture, and general industry development in the region.
Currently, SNAP operates several hydroelectric power plants in Luzon, including the Ambuklao and Binga plants in Benguet province, the Maris plant in Isabela province, and the Magat plant in Ifugao. These facilities play a crucial role in providing sustainable and clean energy to the region.
The Alimit multipurpose project is an exciting opportunity to further enhance power supply in Luzon while addressing the need for irrigation and promoting food security. By leveraging the potential of the Alimit river, the project can contribute to the sustainable development of the region.
