Volkswagen recently unveiled an all-new version of its popular Tiguan SUV, set to hit the U.S. market in 2024. The new Tiguan incorporates Volkswagen’s latest MQB Evo platform, resulting in improved performance and updated styling. The SUV now boasts a drag coefficient of just 0.28, thanks to its revised shape.
One of the most exciting features of the 2024 Tiguan is the availability of different engine options, including gas, turbodiesel, and mild-hybrid engines. However, the standout powertrain is the plug-in hybrid version. VW claims an impressive electric range of up to 62 miles, although this figure is based on the WLTP test cycle, and the actual range may be lower according to EPA testing.
In terms of the interior, the new Tiguan offers a thoroughly revamped cabin. Notable updates include interface enhancements, such as physical buttons on the steering wheel and a new rotary dial controller for certain functions. The touchscreen display is 15 inches and features touch controls for the climate system. Additionally, ambient lighting and comfortable seating with massage and automatic heating functions contribute to a luxurious driving experience.
The 2024 Tiguan also prioritizes safety with comprehensive standard features such as lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, road sign recognition, and automatic emergency braking. VW has also included a parking assistance system and a trailering assistance function for added convenience.
For U.S. consumers, Volkswagen has confirmed that a longer version of the Tiguan will be available, following the trend of the previous generation. This extended version is likely to offer even more cargo space and may also provide a third row of seating. While the diesel engine option may not be offered in the U.S., the plug-in hybrid variant is expected to compete strongly against the growing hybrid market.
