Scotland may not be the first place that comes to mind when thinking about electric cars, but Munro Vehicles is changing that. As Scotland’s only mass-production car manufacturer, Munro Vehicles has introduced a special edition of their MK_1 electric truck called the ‘Mountain Rescue.’ This custom-made 4×4 truck is designed for first responders to easily navigate remote and challenging areas.
The Munro MK_1 ‘Mountain Rescue’ truck offers all the features of the base model, with added enhancements such as roof-mounted blue lights, a spacious enclosed area for a stretcher, and room for the driver, three passengers, and their gear. The truck’s design is rugged and angular, giving it an impressive approach angle of 84 degrees and a departure angle of 51 degrees.
Unlike other electric vehicles that focus on high horsepower and multiple electric motors, Munro Vehicles has chosen to equip the MK_1 with one mid-power electric motor positioned between the front seats. This unique powertrain configuration allows for a balanced weight distribution and optimal off-road performance.
The electric motor in the Munro MK_1 delivers 220 kW (295 hp) and 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque to a mechanical four-wheel-drive system. A more powerful motor option is also available, offering 280 kW (375 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque. The MK_1 is equipped with a two-speed transfer case and three locking differentials, ensuring equal torque distribution to all wheels.
The Munro MK_1 ‘Mountain Rescue’ truck comes in three trim levels: Utility, Range, and Performance. Prices start at £59,994 ($74,443) for the base model and go up to £83,994 ($104,223) for the high-end version. The truck features a modular battery pack with capacities ranging from 56.3 kWh to 75.8 kWh, allowing for a range of up to 190 miles (306 km) in optimal conditions.
