Love’s Travel Stops Awarded $4.8 Million in Federal Funding for EV Charging Stations

Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores has received $4.8 million in federal funding to construct electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at eight locations. This funding, provided by the Federal Highway Administration through its National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program, aims to establish an EV charging network in Pennsylvania and Colorado.

Trillium Energy Solutions, in addition to Love’s, was chosen to be a part of this investment. Trillium’s general manager of zero emission, Kim Okafor, emphasized that on-site support and available space for infrastructure expansion are crucial for successful EV planning. With over 640 locations across the country, Love’s Travel Stops is well-positioned to aid transportation departments in implementing the NEVI (National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure) projects on a state-by-state basis.

The NEVI program was established by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which earmarked $5 billion over five years to facilitate the deployment of direct current EV chargers along highway corridors. The ultimate goal of this program is to create a comprehensive national system of EV chargers. Trillium, a company that specializes in designing, building, and maintaining clean-fueling stations, is a key player in realizing this vision.

As part of this funding initiative, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has allocated $2.6 million to install EV chargers at locations in Slippery Rock, Mifflinville, Brookville, and Jonestown. Furthermore, the Colorado Energy Office and the Colorado Department of Transportation will invest $2.2 million to construct EV chargers at existing stations in Buena Vista, Eads, Parachute, and Hudson.

This funding injection is a significant step towards enhancing the accessibility and viability of EVs in both Pennsylvania and Colorado. By expanding the charging infrastructure, Love’s Travel Stops and Trillium Energy Solutions are contributing to the wider adoption and seamless integration of electric vehicles in these states.
