The Government to Prioritize Electric Vehicle Sector in New Industrial Master Plan 2030

The government has announced its commitment to prioritize the development of the electric vehicle (EV) sector under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030). Liew Chin Tong, the Deputy Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister, stated that policies concerning EVs would be regularly reviewed to ensure the growth and progress of this emerging sector.

As an integral part of the NIMP 2030, the government aims to support and promote the EV sector through various initiatives. This strategic decision reflects the increasing global focus on sustainable transportation, and the government intends to position Malaysia as a key player in the EV market.

With the implementation of appropriate policies and incentives, Malaysia can leverage its existing automotive industry to create a robust EV ecosystem. This would include the establishment of charging infrastructure, local EV manufacturing, research and development programs, and the promotion of EV adoption among consumers.

Through the regular review of EV-related policies, the government aims to stay up-to-date with the evolving EV landscape and address any challenges or issues faced by the sector. It recognizes the importance of continuous support and flexibility in order to foster the growth of a thriving EV industry in Malaysia.

The NIMP 2030’s focus on the EV sector aligns with global efforts to transition towards more sustainable transportation solutions. By directing resources and attention to this sub-sector, Malaysia has the potential to unlock economic opportunities, enhance technological capabilities, and contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

This commitment by the government showcases their vision for Malaysia to become a leader in the EV sector, spurring innovation, creating jobs, and driving sustainable economic growth.
