The Tata Nexon EV Sets Record for Fastest Drive from Kashmir to Kanyakumari

The Tata Nexon EV, driven by EVO India, has set a new record for the fastest drive from Kashmir to Kanyakumari in an electric vehicle (EV). The journey covered a total distance of 4003 km in just 95 hours and 46 minutes, creating three India Book of Records (IBR) records in the process.

The drive started in Srinagar, Kashmir, on February 25, 2023, and ended in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, on March 1, 2023. The route included various cities from north to south, showcasing the capabilities of the Nexon EV in managing high-speed and long-distance travel.

Throughout the journey, the team only stopped to charge the car, demonstrating the availability of public charging networks across the country. The Tata Nexon EV, powered by state-of-the-art Ziptron technology, proved its reliability and performance, having been driven over 800 million km across diverse terrains in India.

The goal of this record-breaking drive was to showcase the possibilities of EVs in real-world conditions and inspire existing and prospective EV owners. Vivek Srivatsa, Head of Marketing, Sales, and Service Strategy at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEM), emphasized the importance of demonstrating the benefits of the Nexon EV’s long-range and the growing network of charging stations.

EVO India’s Editor, Sirish Chandran, was behind the wheel for this historic drive, aiming to dispel myths about electric cars’ usability in India. The journey faced various challenges, including harsh weather conditions and difficult terrains, but the Nexon EV proved its capabilities.

The record-setting drive was flagged off in Srinagar and witnessed delays due to tunnel maintenance and traffic jams. Along the way, the team stopped at charging points and enjoyed local hospitality, including food and refreshments from various locations.

The journey concluded in Kanyakumari with the support of Tata Motors’ MD, Shailesh Chandra, and the TPEM team. The Tata Nexon EV demonstrated that driving long distances in an EV is feasible and comfortable, with the lack of vibrations reducing fatigue and the instant acceleration enabling safe overtaking.

The success of this record-breaking drive highlights the potential of EVs in India and encourages the adoption of sustainable transportation. With the continued development of EV technology and charging infrastructure, the future looks promising for electric mobility in the country.
