Tata Motors surprised car enthusiasts when it unveiled the Curvv electric SUV concept in April 2022. The futuristic design and coupe-like roofline received high praise. At the 2023 Auto Expo in January, a production version of the Curvv was displayed, showcasing how closely it resembled the concept model. Tata Motors originally planned to launch the Curvv SUV in early 2024, but with ICE powertrains instead of electric.
Exclusive images shared by a TOI Auto reader reveal the production shell of the Curvv, confirming that it is nearing the start of production. The SUV is expected to come equipped with a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a new offering from Tata Motors. Unlike the concept, the production version will feature traditional ORVMs instead of a camera setup. There is also speculation that the SUV could be launched under the name ‘Tata Frest’, as the company recently filed a trademark for this land vehicle.
Comparing the production shell to the close-to-production car displayed earlier, some noticeable changes are apparent. The hidden air-vent feature on the sloping roofline is missing, and the rounded wheel arches have been replaced with a more squared-off design. However, if the updates seen on the Nexon and Nexon EV models are any indication, it is highly likely that the production version of the Curvv/Frest SUV will closely resemble the concept, incorporating ultra-futuristic touches such as animated LED lighting elements and vertically stacked LED headlamp units.
As Tata Motors nears the launch of its coupe SUV, the anticipation among car enthusiasts is growing. Stay tuned for more updates on the Curvv or Frest SUV.
