The Danish Minister for the Environment, Karen Ellemann, is currently in China to promote Danish environmental and energy technology as well as to sign a collaboration agreement with the Chinese minister for water resources. Combating air pollution, managing growing amounts of waste and protection of water resources have increasingly high priority in China - all areas where Denmark can offer significant experience and a range of technologies. "The main purpose of the trip is to create and nurture our connections with Chinese decision-makers, so that we can promote Danish companies' export opportunities to China in the environmental technology area. It not only benefits Denmark, but also the environment in China. It is important that we show our responsibility in the best possible way by encouraging transfer of our experience and technologies, so that China is prepared to unite growth with better protection of the environment," says Karen Ellemann.

The minister will also be attending a meeting with the Chinese deputy environment minister in Beijing to discuss how collaboration can be strengthened in areas related to air, waste, water and chemicals, and in the city of Chongqing in western China, Mrs. Ellemann will discuss collaboration opportunities with the mayor. Danish environmental and energy technology generate exports of DKK 93 billion annually of which DKK 43 billion are associated with environmental technology. Since 1999, exports of Danish environmental technology have increased 42% more than the country's total exports of goods.

The news is reported in a press release from the Danish Ministry of the Environment.
