Apple is a popular company, but has recently received criticism because it has not been transparant about the sustainability of the materials used in its products. Also, the company does not disclose information about how the products are recycled. To draw attention to this, Greenpeace  has started a website to encourage Apple improve its transparency: http://www.greenmyapple.org. It is possible initiaves like this by Greenpeace and other organizations have been effective, since Apple published plans to become a Greener Apple today.

In a typical Apple-style (short and to-the-point), the company presented a document that provides some insight in how Apple's products are prepared for shipping. According to the document, lead has almost been removed from the production process of the iMac. Additionally, the company is aiming to eliminate the use of arsenic in all of its displays. The target date for this objective is the end of 2008. Another initiative is recycling over 25% of the products sold, in this case to be achieved by 2010.

How serious Apple is in achieving this targets remains to be seen, we're looking forward to the first ever environmental report.
