Danish holiday home rental company Dansommer's launch of energy houses has turned out to be popular among its customers, with 50% more bookings achieved since 1 May compared to standard houses. According to a press release from the firm, holiday guests from Germany and the Netherlands have shown a particular interest in booking energy houses. Torbjörn Fredman, the head of Dansommer's Scandinavian operations, says: "We currently have 2,100 energy houses, and we would like to have even more because we think this is the future. We will achieve it through efficient consultancy with owners of holiday homes, a service we can offer through NRGi [energy company] Consultancy, which has the right competences to help holiday home owners to save on energy."

Dansommer entered a climate collaboration with NRGi Consultancy at the beginning of 2010, and they expect to find large energy savings in holiday homes nationwide. Holiday owners are offered an energy check to find the savings potential. MD of NRGi Consultancy, Ulf Christensen, says: "The collaboration means that a holiday home owner can use NRGi's consultants to find out how to make [energy] savings in the house. In that way you can do something that is good for both your finances and the climate."

In one of the holiday homes which has made use of the consultancy, energy savings of 11,000 kWh annually, corresponding to a saving of DKK 18,700 and a 5.5 ton reduction in CO2 emissions, could be made if the heating of the house and pool was changed to solar heating or heat pumps . These figures exclude potential savings on lighting, other electricity use and hot water.
