At the Nuuk Climate Days in Greenland, a leading researcher from the United States revealed important finding. Recent research estimates that the seas around Greenland will be ice-free much earlier than previously anticipated: already during September in the year 2015. Climate researchers from around the world met in Greenland's capital, Nuuk, to discuss the latest news and research about global climate change. One of the topics under discussion was the changes in Greenland's cryosphere. This is an area of ice and permafrost. The workshop crysphere brought a worrying prediction. "There have also been predictions placing the date in 2035 or 2040, but there is a consensus that the ice will melt during the summer," according to researcher Fosberg from the Technical University of Denmark. Greenland's prime minister Kuupik Kleist welcomed the scientists at the conference, but nevertheless reiterated the country's position that Greenland will not sign any climate treaty unless the needs of developing countries are appropriately considered. "Greenland stands by its right to abstain from a deal if the deal imposes economic sanctions on developing countries like Greenland, which are trying to strengthen their people and society," Kleist said.
