Offshore wind installation company A2SEA, which is owned* by DONG Energy, has entered an agreement with Chinese company COSCO Shipyard Group Co. for the construction of a specially designed vessel for installation of offshore wind turbines. The contract has a value of USD 139 million (approximately DKK 820 million). The new jack-up vessel, Sea Installer, will be able to carry 8-10 offshore wind turbines (towers, nacelles and blades), which is significantly more than the capacity of vessels that are on the market today, and can operate in a water depth of as much as 45 metres, making it suitable for the installation of future offshore wind turbines around countries such as the UK. Jens Frederik Hansen, managing director of A2SEA, says in a press release: "An increase in the number of offshore wind turbine projects in the near future will lead to even greater demand for installation vessels than today. With a new and highly advanced vessel, A2SEA will be able to meet our customers' future needs and maintain our position as a leading supplier of installation services." 8953_offshore_wind_turbine_installation_vessel
