Econcern has announced from its Sustainable Energy Event, running alongside the COP14 in Poznan, agreements to invest EUR 63m in onshore wind farms in China. The agreements represent over 720 MW of sustainable energy capacity. Econcern has signed term sheets for three onshore wind farm projects with CNOOC New Energy (a full subsidiary of China National Offshore Oil Corporation) and for one onshore wind farm project with SINOHYDRO Renewable Energy (a full subsidiary of SINOHYDRO Corporation). Combined the deals mean an investment of EUR 863m; which will make Econcern a major player in the Chinese sustainable energy market. Construction of the projects is expected to start in 2009.
The agreements with these two major and strong Chinese partners help reinforce Econcern's position as a leading global supplier of sustainable energy solutions. Econcern chairman of the board, Ad van Wijk, commented, "The size and scope of these agreements prove that a sustainable energy supply for everyone is absolutely achievable. It can be done and we are showing how. Econcern has ambitious growth targets; these deals show that investment in sustainable solutions remain strong despite the current situation with the financial markets"

"Traditional energy suppliers focus on conventional models and solutions, but this is no longer sustainable in any sense. Sustainable energy is the only long term viable option. We have come to Poznań to host the Econcern Sustainable Energy Event alongside the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. During this intensive twelve-day event, we will demonstrate that sustainable energy provides a sound business strategy. Increasingly, organisations of all sizes and sectors are investing in sustainable energy because it offers both a strong return-on-investment and a long-term solution to climate change."
