Econcern today will open its latest solar park in Spain. The EUR12 million Los Cabezos solar park will generate 2MW of solar power, providing the electricity required for 750 households and reducing emissions of CO2 by 1,800 tonnes per year. The new solar park, located in Hornachuelos, Cordoba, will be officially opened by Marca Sol Calzado Garcia, the Provincial Delegate of Andalusia's Department of Innovation, Science and Business and by Julian Lopez Vazquez, the Mayor of Hornachuelos. The solar park has been developed and built by Econcern. It follows the opening of Econcern's Aznalcollar solar park (2MW) near Seville, opened by the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Jan Peter Balkenende and the President of Junta de Andalucia, Manuel Chaves Gonzalez, earlier this year. Econcern is a leading player in the Spanish solar energy market and has realised projects such as Murcia solar park (13MW), which at the time of construction was the world's largest solar project. Econcern continues to lead innovation with its development of the 50MW Guzman concentrated solar park to be built near the town of Palma del Rio near Seville. 6200_econcern_spain_solarEconcern today will open its latest solar park in Spain. Econcern also has other operations in Spain bringing investment and innovation to the country. From its Barcelona office Econcern runs its carbon credits business, co-developing and financing projects globally that reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases. Ecofys, the company's knowledge division, from its offices in Spain, provides major Spanish companies, public bodies and NGOs with consultancy in the field of renewable energy, energy efficiency and climate change. Kees van der Leun, member of the board of Econcern, said: "As a company we are committed to sustained growth in Spain; the Los Cabezos solar park is just one example of the projects we are undertaking. As a company we have a clear mission‚ to provide a sustainable energy supply for everyone. Solar energy in particular has a huge role to play. In just one hour the sun provides more energy than the entire world consumes in a whole year. Spain is particularly blessed by this tremendous natural energy resource." Roland Bettscheider, Spain country manager for the project development division of Econcern said: "Los Cabezos solar park has brought further investment and clean energy to the region of Andalusia. It follows the opening of Aznalcollar earlier this year; we are continuing to invest in the region of Andalusia and Spain."
