As of Saturday 17 July 2010, owner-occupiers who make their homes more energy-efficient will again be able to apply for subsidy. The budget for the subsidy fund provided by the More with Less [‘Meer Met Minder'] Foundation ran out in May, so the subsidies will now come from a scheme set up by the national government. €15 million have been earmarked for this scheme. Minister Van Middelkoop of Housing, Communities and Integration (WWI) made this announcement today. The More with Less State Subsidy (Rijkspremie Meer met Minder) is a temporary scheme that will run until the end of 2011. A ceiling of €5 million has been set for the total amount available in subsidies from the scheme this year.

More with Less

The budget of €15 million is in addition to the original amount of €4.5 million made available to the More with Less Foundation by the Minister of Housing, Communities and Integration. The More with Less subsidy proved to be a success last year. In addition to the fact that a large number of homes were made more energy-efficient, the subsidy also had a favourable impact on employment for local contractors.

From tomorrow onwards, the subsidy will continue as a national government subsidy administered by the NL Agency. The condition for obtaining a subsidy is still that the energy-saving measures must be based on customised advice regarding energy labels. If the modifications improve the energy label by at least one category, then the home owner will receive a subsidy of €300. Improving the energy label by two categories will entitle the home owner to €750. The subsidy for the consumer can only be requested by a provider who is participating in the More with Less scheme. If so desired, this provider can also give the mandatory customised advice.

More attractive option

The subsidy is intended to make investing in energy-saving measures a more attractive option. Energy-saving measures reduce energy bills, improve living comfort and result in an increase in the value of the home. Owner-occupiers who decide to invest now can also take advantage of a number of other government schemes such as a subsidy towards the costs of the mandatory customised advice and additional insulating glass. In many cases there are also schemes still available that are run by provincial and municipal authorities.

Subsidies can be submitted by a More with Less provider at meermetminder.nl from Saturday 17 July. The terms and conditions are also posted on the More with Less website.
