Greenpeace endorsed legislation (HR 5248) introduced in the House of Representatives by Representatives Pallone, Castor and Garamendi, which seeks to prohibit further leasing of any area of the outer Continental shelf for the exploration, development, or production of oil, gas, or any other mineral. "It is clear that offshore drilling presents a clear and present danger to the environment, to the public, and to our economy," said Phil Radford, Greenpeace Executive Director. As we watch this terrible disaster unfold in the Gulf, it becomes ever more clear that we have to kick America's addiction to all oil and commit to a future based on clean and renewable energy and efficiency technologies.
