Cutting carbon pollution saves money
Some ways you can reduce your carbon emissions:
* cutting back on journeys you don't need to make
* replacing old light bulbs with energy saving ones
* using a delivery service instead of driving to the shops
* insulating your home - this can knock £300 per year off your household fuel bill
* fitting solar tiles to a south facing roof - this can generate free hot water or extra power that you can sell to your energy supplier
Homeowners and landlords can get capital grants towards the cost of insulation or fitting solar tiles. Contact your energy supplier for details, or call the 'Act on CO2' advice line on 0800 512 012.
In 2010, watch out for "Pay As You Save" (PAYS) - a new way to pay for whole-house energy retrofits.
Know your carbon footprint
The 'Act on CO2' website has many more energy saving tips and can help you work out your carbon footprint. Knowing how much carbon you use will help you see where you can cut back in 2010.
